Card Clumping
One of these methods is called âtracking the clumps.â Card âclumpingâ occurs when the decks are shuffled by human dealers. No human shuffle is ever perfect or ever completely random. After a while, certain groups of cards tend to clump together, forming streaks and runs of like-value cards. These clumps may be composed of a series of high cards, such as a series of 10s, or of low cards, such as a series of cards 2 through 6. Of course, mixed runs of cards are likewise possible, but these are statistically meaningless for these purposes because here we are only concerned with learning to spot clumps of either high cards or small cards.
It is also important to mention here that in any six-deck shoe game that uses the mechanical shuffling machines, tracking of clumps is not possible. These machines often additionally randomize the cards, and this renders the vast majority of the deck completely without any recognizable pattern, be it clumps or counting of cards. Further, in games that use continuous shuffling machines, no principles of blackjack skill can be used. For these, and many of the other reasons already mentioned and yet to be mentioned, the best you can do for yourself in playing blackjack is to completely avoid any and all blackjack games where any kind of shuffling machine is used. (There is only one way that I have found in which the game of blackjack can still yield a continuous profit even against machine-shuffled games, including continuous shufflers and randomizers. This is a very specific and highly detailed program of how to wager and what to look for, and is detailed in my book on Advanced Strategies. However, even then I still recommend that you simply stay away from any blackjack game that uses these shuffling machines. Itâs just not worth it.)
Well, now that this has been made clear, we can continue with the discussion of clumping. This is possible in situations where human dealers shuffle the cards; therefore, if you must play a six-deck shoe game, always look for one that is shuffled by a human dealer and not a machine. Then look for the majority of the player-favorable rules and conditions, and when you have found this, then you have the kind of six-deck shoe game that can be played with the following suggestions.
In some casinos that use the six-deck shoe game shuffled by a human dealer, after the shuffle they burn a series of cards. These may be from only one to four, up to six or more. Normally, about six cards are so burned from the freshly shuffled six-deck shoe. In most casinos these burn cards are set aside face downâbut not always. In some casinos they are shown face up. Admittedly, this is very rare, but if you do find a casino that does this it will give you an immediate advantage in starting your tracking of clumps. If you see that the six burn cards are mostly high-value cards, such
